Turbocharged: Archrock Expands Manufacturing Space
10 April 2019
Space wasn’t always an issue at Archrock’s turbocharger facility in McPherson, Kansas. Built in 1991, the facility provides aftermarket services for turbochargers, blowers and rotating equipment.
Demand, however, forced Archrock’s hand. As the business grew, the once spacious facility became tighter and restrictive.
“We were constrained from a capacity perspective,†said Mitch Opat, manager, Archrock Turbocharger Group. “We needed to expand our capacity.â€
That capacity came 15 months later in the form of an adjacent facility east of the company’s original manufacturing space. Now, Archrock’s Turbocharger Group, part of the Archrock family of companies, has 26,750 sq. ft. (2485 m2) of work space for its turbocharger operations. While the new facility started operating in mid-August, the company officially celebrated its operational status with an open house on October 17.
The expanded facility, which has an additional 15,000 sq. ft. (1394 m2) of warehouse and inventory space, handles the manufacturing, remanufacturing, repairs and testing of turbochargers for the gas compression, power generation and petrochemical industries, among many others. It also serves as a global sourcing hub for Archrock’s turbocharger business.
